The biggest obstacle for most people who want to get started in Internet Marketing…is that they can’t get started!! I find that the majority of people who want to start an online business have the motivation and work ethic, it’s just extremely difficult to organize the information – especially when there’s a TON of bad advice floating around forums and the internet in general. If you’re new and aren’t necessarily an “expert” at anything just yet, the most important first step is finding a profitable niche.
I highly recommend you narrow your focus to ONE single niche. It’s much easier to become an expert in one area rather than two or three. People who really do well online (and the world in general) are known primarily for one thing. Bill Gates is known for Microsoft. Warren Buffett is known as a stock expert. Adam Dicker is known for his Domain forum. I’m sure they have other things they focus on, but they’re primarily known as being experts in a specific field.
What do YOU focus on? Are you jumping into three niches at once? I’m willing to bet that if the answer is yes, you’re most likely in a state of “paralysis by analysis”. Find something you like doing, something that you’re passionate about…then become an expert at it.
For research, Google the niche you’re thinking about and see if there are forums, books, magazines, and online stores devoted to that particular market. For example, there are several forums online for people who want to lose weight. You see commercials on TV pitching supplements for weight loss, best-selling books on fad diets, and fitness magazines have been around for a long time. The weight loss niche is here to stay. Is your niche similar to this? Are there books, magazines, forums, and several products being sold online? If not, DON’T TRY TO CREATE A NEW MARKET. Choose a pre-existing market that is competitive and get a piece of the action.
Take the time to learn what your niche market wants. After you learn what they want, give them what they desire and aim for consistency. If someone subscribed to your list wanting to know more about how to build a subscriber list, don’t email them the next day trying to sell an affiliate product about making money on Ebay. Follow up with an offer that’s related. Your job as the expert is to provide answers to the questions your target market is asking. You answer their questions with your products or affiliate products. It’s that simple.
Remember, devote your time and energy to becoming an expert in a single niche. Save yourself from “information overload” so you can finally get started and be crazy successful online.
